Vlaggen Voor Vrede
Een doorlopend vredesproject van
War for Peace/Museum Romagne 14-18
In March 2025, a major new project by War of Peace/Romagne 14-18 was on the agenda: Flags for Peace. In other words, placing more than 15,000 flags in the La Robinette valley in Romagne. By placing these flags, the soldiers of the Great War became visible again for a moment. They were not forgotten. At the same time, these flags in the landscape were an impressive call for peace throughout the world. A call that is only becoming more urgent in these turbulent and uncertain times.
Jean-Paul approached a number of schools in the Netherlands to help with the production of the flags. Many volunteers also worked for weeks. Without them, the Flags for Peace project would not have been possible.
Jean-Paul put out a call to sponsor one or more flags. Many responded to this call.
It wasn't long before the press took notice. Flags for Peace attracted a lot of attention both at home and abroad, through newspapers, radio, and television.
We are now pleased to announce that Jean-Paul is already working on concrete plans to continue his Flags for Peace project. In September, for example, Brabant will host a week of peace. What could be more beautiful than seeing a sea of red flags waving there too? And what about the beaches of Normandy, the former battlefield of Waterloo, the Ardennes, Ypres, the Somme? The same battlefields that were once red with blood could, if Jean-Paul has his way, become fields of peace in the future, not only encouraging remembrance and reflection, but also calling on the world to end war, wherever it may be. In Jean-Paul's words: ‘War is always and everywhere the work of human beings. The same people who start a war can also end it’.
That is Jean-Paul's dream. It is no coincidence that he gave his Museum Romagne 14-18 a new name: War for Peace. The Flags for Peace project is an impressive testimony to this idea.
We will keep you informed of all our plans through our website.
